Hey Mohammed — tap the mic and I will start the mock interview. I will ask you a question, you answer out loud, and I will give you scored feedback using the King County STAR-LA framework. Ready when you are.

Answer questions one at a time. Claude scores each response using the KC STAR-LA framework.

Step 1 — Pick a KC competency
Step 2 — Your story (rough notes are fine)
Before the interview
Research KCIT — know their mission, "True North" guiding principles, and NACo recognition. They will ask why King County specifically.
Prepare 5-6 STAR-LA stories. The same story can be spun for multiple competencies — practice pivoting it depending on the question asked.
Know how to address weaker qualifications: no CCNP yet, no ITIL cert. Have a confident forward-looking response ready for each.
Prepare 1-2 questions to ask the panel and 1-2 for the final hiring manager interview — they are separate rounds.
Location: King Street Center, 201 S Jackson St, Seattle. Arrive 20 minutes early.
During the panel interview
Treat all panel members equally — act as if none of them know your background.
Use STAR-LA for all behavioral and situational questions. Say "I" not "we" — the panel is evaluating you specifically.
Complete responses: which job, when, tools used, tasks from start to finish, quantified outcome where possible.
Speak positively about former employers. No frustrations, legal issues, or personal matters.
Turn negatives into learning experiences. KC behavioral anchors reward growth mindset.
Affirm your interest in the position at the end and ask your questions.
KC hiring process
The panel scores each response against pre-determined behavioral anchors — they are measuring competency depth, not just checking boxes.
This recruitment fills both TLT (3-year) and permanent Career Service roles. Ask which type your slot is during the final interview.
After the panel, a final hiring manager interview assesses workplace fit. That is the time for personality and team questions.
Send a thank-you email within 24 hours: shmichael@kingcounty.gov. Confirm your interest in the position.
